The Pros

  • Assembly - many customers who have purchased this grill in the past have praised how easy it is to put together.
  • Size - as this is a generously sized grill, it has the capacity to cook several different food items at once - great for catering to parties.
  • Durability - because this grill has been made from high-quality materials, it is going to resist damage.
  • Ease of use - using this grill is a straightforward task, even those that have not used one previously are unlikely to encounter many issues.
  • Flavor - as this grill is compatible with natural wood pellets, your food is going to be infused with more flavor.

The Cons

  • Grilling performance - whilst this grill excels in smoking, baking, braising, roasting, and barbecuing your meat, some customers were left unimpressed by the performance of the grill.
  • It is not compatible with wifi - many newer grills are now compatible with wifi which makes them more intuitive, however, this Traeger grill is not wifi compatible.
  • Price - this grill retails within a higher price range and whilst many customers state that this is justifiable and reflected in the quality of features and performance etc, it may not be the best option for those who are on a budget.

Cooking Capacity

Pellet grills come in an array of sizes, however, one of the major selling points of this particular Traeger grill is the substantially sized cooking surface.

With an 884 square inch capacity, it can hold 8 chickens, 7 racks of ribs, and 40 burgers at once which is pretty impressive as I’m sure you will agree.

The size of this grill makes it an excellent choice for those who often find themselves hosting parties and cooking for large groups. Instead of having to cook the food at different times, using this grill, you can cook it all at once.

The hopper also has the capacity to hold 18 lbs of pellets. As such, you can enjoy up to 20 hours of smoking time (weather permitting of course) and you can also cook bigger chunks of meat that are likely to take longer to cook.

Usability

Using a grill for the first time can seem quite daunting, especially if the controls are more complex than they need to be.

The Traeger Pro Series 34 is designed with ease of use in mind and has a digital pro controller displayed on the body of the grill. One of the many great things about this controller is that it monitors the temperature to ensure that it remains within +/- 15 degrees F.

Because of this, you will benefit from more precise grilling. The LEDs on the control panel will also illuminate to keep you informed on the status of the foods that are cooking. If you have previous experience of using a pellet grill, it is unlikely that you will run into problems when using this Traeger grill.

When purchased through Amazon, you can choose between two options. You can either receive the grill already expertly assembled, or you can order it as normal without choosing for it to be assembled by the experts.

Should you proceed with the latter, you will need to put it together yourself when you receive it.

Versatility

This grill offers the 6 in 1 versatility that Traeger is known for. It allows you to grill, smoke, bake, roast, braise or BBQ your meat. For this reason, you can choose the best setting for the type of food that you are going to be cooking.

Whilst some meats may taste better when cooked slowly on a lower heat setting, others may need to be exposed to more intense heat as this will cook it faster. Regardless of how you cook your meat, you are going to taste the wood-fired flavor that is created by the smoke.

It is worth noting that this grill reaches a maximum temperature of 450 degrees Fahrenheit and whilst it will add some color to the outside of the meat, for some, it may not be seared to the extent that they like.

Construction

If a grill is not durably constructed, it isn’t going to deliver long-lasting use. The construction of the Traeger Pro Series 34 certainly does not disappoint. Made from powder-coated stainless steel, it is sturdy and robust enough to withstand frequent use and the elements that it will face outdoors.

We particularly like that the steel has been powder coated as this will stop it from corroding. This grill has also been designed with all-terrain wheels that can be pulled over different surfaces without breaking. As for the grill grates, they have been made from porcelain; a material that is known for its durable qualities.

In regards to the appearance of the grill, it has a black exterior with a copper-colored pull down lid. As such, not only is it a practical and functional piece of equipment but it is also aesthetically pleasing and won’t look like an eye saw in your garden.

Fuel Source

The Traeger Pro Series 34 grill is solely fueled by hardwood pellets so you will no longer need to use gas or charcoal. There are several benefits associated with the use of hardwood pellets.

They burn cleaner and are more environmentally friendly than alternative options. Hardwood pellets are also recommended for those who enjoy faster cooking.

Moreover, they contribute to improved temperature regulation and as they are the same size they will burn the same way, thus resulting in even cooking.

Portability

Portability is important for those who are likely to move the grill in between uses. Weighing 136 lbs it is rather weighty, however, it has wheels that will make it easier to move.

It is also designed with a handle that you can use to pull it to different parts of your garden. Thanks to these features you are going to spend less time trying to lift the grill in an attempt to move it.

We also like that the all-terrain wheels allow you to push this grill over any surface, as implied. Whilst you may use the grill on your patio, the wheels will allow you to push it onto more grassy or rugged terrain in your garden in between uses.

The two caster wheels also have brakes on them so you can lock them into place and this will prevent the grill from moving unexpectedly.

Safety Features

Whilst your grill needs to be functional it also needs to be safe. This grill has an auto-start feature that is responsible for activating the igniter rod and feeding the pellets into the firepot.

As such, very little work is required on your behalf to get the grill started. The lid can also be pulled down when the grill is in use and your food is cooking. If any children or pets should come into proximity to the grill the lid will prevent them from coming into contact with the hot cooking grates.

This grill features a digital pro controller along with two meat probes that you can use to monitor the progress of your meat.

Using the probes, you can also check whether your meat is cooked thoroughly before you remove it from the grill. This will help to eliminate any concerns that you may have regarding undercooked meat.

Cleaning The Grill

Cleaning your grill after using it can seem like a chore, especially when it feels as though you’ve spent hours trying to scrub the same section clean. Cleaning a grill that uses hardwood pellets is much easier than cleaning one that uses gas or charcoal.

This is because the pellets do not produce any residue and this model also has a convenient hopper cleanout feature that allows you to empty and refill the pellets without disturbing the cooking process.

This also comes in handy on occasions when you are cooking meat or any other food that is likely to use more than 18 lbs of pellets.

This Traeger grill is also designed with a drip tray that catches the juice and grease from the meat as it cooks. Because it is all collected in one area it is going to be a lot easier to clean.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to pellet grills, the Traeger Pro Series 34 is a strong contender. The design isn’t overly complex and the control panel is easy to locate and use.

You can cook for lots of people at once and the meat probes and temperature grill ensure that food is cooked correctly. It could benefit from wifi compatibility, however, on the whole, this is an impressive grill.
